OBITUARY: Essie Mae Hester

September 8, 1942 – May 13, 2020

Essie Mae Hester, 77, passed away in Palmer, Texas on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

Essie was born in Talladega, Alabama on Sept. 8, 1942 to Charlie George and Lizzy Beth (Timms) Lackey. She grew up in Ironton, Alabama and graduated from Munford, Alabama in 1960. She married the love of her life Lee Hester on Dec. 29, 1967 and they have lived their entire married life in Texas. Essie served her country proudly in the United States Army as a medical and clerical clerk.

Essie and Lee raised five children, and she loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-greatgrandmother. Essie was an exceptionally talented crochet artist she was even been published for her crochet. Essie enjoyed working in her flower garden and collecting Barbie Dolls.

Essie is survived by her husband of over fifty-two years, Lee Hester; son Michael Hester; daughters: Theresa Spillers, Cheryl Hester and Patty Goodwin and her husband, Joe; fourteen grandchildren: twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jerry Lackey and his wife, Alice and Randy Lackey and his wife, Ester along with a host of extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Wayde Hester.

Visitation was held Friday, May 15 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis.

The memorial service was held Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at the J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis.
