Dale was born in Marshall, MI to Pondale and Marjorie (Hower) Petroff.

He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1975. He served both active duty and reserve duty in the military.

After the military, he became a subject matter expert and published author in his field of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats. He traveled the world receiving many accreditations and awards and was sought after for his expertise.

He was a very humble, kind man that lived a spiritual life.

Family was his greatest joy, accomplishment, and pleasure in this life. His first marriage was to Susan Lapp, and they were blessed with 3 children. Dale found love again with Etta Summerall and added 2 more children to their family when they were married in 1995 and remained married until Dale's passing.

Dale is survived by his wife Etta Petroff, mother Majorie Hakes, sisters Shelly Amaro and Jayette Petroff; brother Kevin Petroff, children, Nicholas Petroff (Gidget), Janeene Morrison (Tony), Martin Petroff (Mandy), Lee Summerall (Christy), and Cory Summerall (Stacy); grandchildren, Amanda White, Justin Summerall, Joshua Morrison (Ardelle), Blake Shipman (Jazlyn), Dylan Morrison (Hannah), Caleb Morrison (Raegan), Sabrina Hutchinson (Jake), Bryce Petroff-Sutton, Haiden Hale, Felicity Petroff, Ryland Petroff, Madison Summerall, Jocelyn Summerall, Sloan Summerall, and Evelyn Summerall; 12 great-grandchildren; and is preceded in death by his brother Craig J. Petroff, grandmother Dorothy K. Vollgraff, and grandmother Helen Petroff.

Funeral will be held at DFW National Cemetery on Feb. 27, 2025, at 10:15 a.m. with military honors and his final resting place.
