LANCASTER – The Waxahachie Indians came into the game against Red Oak at Veverly D. Humphrey Stadium in Lancaster looking to get back in the win column after losing to North Crowley last Friday, while Red Oak was looking to put together back-to-back wins in district play.
On a windy cool night, the game started with an apparent safety resulting from a muffed opening kick-off return by Waxahachie, but after the officials discussed it, the play was ruled a touch back, and the Indians started on their 25.
Waxahachie marched down the field and with 8:21 left in the 1st quarter and scored their first of many touchdowns in their 48-3 win over the Red Oak.
Indian quarterback Jerry Meyer III bounced back from a previous week’s loss by throwing for 303 yards and 4 touchdowns with 1 interception, completing 73.3% of his passes. Running back Taylen Strange added a strong all-around performance, racking up 124 total yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Waxahachie swarmed Red Oak, recording 6.5 total sacks. Senior defensive end Carmelo Clawson led the defensive front with 1.5 sacks.
The Hawks offense struggled to get any momentum going the entire game. Although, the Hawks moved the ball at times, the Indians defense stiffened when it need to and kept the Hawks out of the end zone the entire game. The Hawks lone points came off a 31-yard Field Goal by Andrew Casillas.
Waxahachie is home this week hosting Duncanville, while the Hawks travel to take on the Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles. Both the Eagles and Hawks have the same 4-3 (2-2) record and are fighting for a playoff spot. Red Oak returns home on Oct. 30, which is also their homecoming game when they host the Dallas Skyline Raiders.
