FERRIS – The Ferris Yellowjackets took a hard 42-27 fall against the Sulphur Springs Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 2.

The Wildcat’s Dobson Martin was his usual excellent self, rushing for 175 yards and 4 TDs while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also picking up 56 receiving yards and 1 touchdown for Sulphur Springs. Martin has averaged 2.5 rushing touchdowns per game over his last six games. Deuce Timmons was another key player, throwing for 231 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Ferris lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was senior Kreshuan Waters, who rushed six times for 39 yards and 1 touchdown, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and 1 TD. Another player making a difference was Jacob Banks, who rushed for 57 yards and 1 score on only 6 carries. Quarterback Tristan Cook was 16 for 29 for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns but was picked off twice.

For the Wildcats, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-3.

The Yellowjackets have been struggling for a while as they’ve lost three of their last four games. That’s taken a bite out of their 2-3 record this season.

Next up, the Yellowjackets will head out to face the Paris Wildcats at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The Wildcats have a bye week, then they’ll host Paris at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16.
