ALMA – Alma has appointed its new police chief, Cornilus Hawkins.
Hawkins will be sworn in at the Aug.18 city council meeting.
No stranger to Alma, Hawkins has served the city since 2022, beginning his employment with the police department in a part-time capacity. He then moved into a full-time position, and he is currently the city’s interim police chief.
An Alma press release stated of his service, “During that time, he has demonstrated exception leadership, integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to serving our community.”
Hawkins has nearly eight years of commissioned law enforcement experience with knowledge in police administration, patrol operations, investigations, personnel leadership, budgeting, policy development and community relations.
He holds both a TCOLE Intermediate Police Officer Certificate and a Basic Instructor Proficiency Certificate.
