WAXAHACHIE – Ellis County DA’s office announced last week a jury had found Marquael Odoric Greer from Lancaster guilty of assault-family violence.
He was sentenced to 72 years in prison.
Odoric had previously been convicted of assault-family violence in cases also involving the same and additional victims.
He has also had five separate prison trips for offenses including home burglary, drug dealing, firearms offenses, and other family violence convictions.
In addition, the jury heard evidence he had thrown a small puppy out of a car window on the freeway in Parker County, killing the dog.
This latest charge stemmed from an incident taking place last year when the victim broke up with Odoric.
The DA’s office reported he “tracked the victim to her grandmother’s home in a senior living community in Midlothian.
“After confronting her at the door, Greer grabbed the victim by the hair and threw her inside the apartment onto the ground.
“He got on top of her and choked her. After being punched and choked, the victim was able to break free and desperately ran from the apartment.”
A neighbor came to the victim’s assistance and reported seeing the defendant leave the scene after stealing the victim’s cell phone and car keys.
The neighbor took photos of the incident including Odoric’s vehicle license plate as he fled the scene.
Midlothian Police arrested Greer and confirmed the victim was found near the senior community office bleeding with scratch marks around her throat and a bruised and swollen left eye area.
