WAXAHACHIE – Artist-Designer Steven R. Umbach will present “Perspective for Artists” at the Aug. 3 meeting of The Ellis County Art Association at First Baptist Church of Waxahachie (450 US287 BYP). This demonstration reviews fundamental linear perspective techniques, enabling artists to represent depth and dimension effectively and expressively in their work.
Umbach, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, has been a professional industrial designer for 45 years, having founded his own Texas-based design consultancy in 2001 which he closed in 2025 to focus full-time on his passion for painting in acrylic, watercolor and soft pastel mediums.
Artists are invited to bring examples of their own work for helpful critique on issues of perspective.
To get the most from the demonstration, participants may bring a few supplies (12x16 or 14 x 17 sketch pad white paper, a 24 or 30-inch straight edge, a blue colored pencil, a regular sketch pencil, an eraser) but definitely not required for attendance.
The meeting at FBC is open to everyone and begins at 6 p.m. with refreshments and socializing.
