Waxahachie ISD security breach exposed student data

WAXAHACHIE – A Waxahachie ISD security breach potentially exposed the district’s ninth to twelfth grade students after a data security incident last week. 

While the district has resumed syncing data with Canvas Learning Management System after that company confirmed it was safe, the company had apparently faced a problem with Instructure, the parent company of Canvas Learning Management System.

According to the WISD website, the breach could have exposed usernames, email addresses, student ID numbers, and internal messages on the platform. 

“Staff and students are advised to be cautious of phishing scams and unsolicited emails requesting personal information or passwords,” the WISD website warned.
