ITALY – Several months ago, the Italy City Council unanimously voted to terminate Scott McAuley, the city’s police chief.
No interim was named to replace McAuley at that time.
Recently, the city has named Chad Nelson, an investigator with the Italy Police Department, to act as interim chief during the city’s replacement search.
According to city staff, Nelson is also still performing his job as an investigator while performing the interim police chief duties.
According to Italy’s City Administrator Keith Whitfield, it is still undecided if a firm is going to be used to help with the police chief search.
Whitfield said he is in the process of going through applications, but the search will not fully begin until January.
McAuley, the former police chief, had originally been placed on leave this past October before being terminated several weeks later.
