Dead body discovered during welfare check

WAXAHACHIE – Ellis County Sheriff’s Department was called to the 4200 block of FM 876 near Waxahachie regarding a welfare check involving an elderly couple last week, Jan. 13.

When deputies arrived, they discovered a deceased adult female with an apparent gunshot wound, and a second adult male who had also sustained a gunshot wound.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the female was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male was transported from the location by CareFlite to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

This is believed to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit are still investigating.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
