ELLIS COUNTY – An incident that began in Ellis County and ended in Dallas earlier this month resulted in the apprehension on Friday, Jan. 2 at approximately 2 a.m. of Alejandro Cuarenta, a 19-year-old male from Dallas.
Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies were originally dispatched to a prowler call in the 600 block of Panorama Loop in Waxahachie when a resident reported a subject on their home surveillance system breaking into a vehicle.
According to a media release, Ellis County deputies arrived a short time later and learned two vehicles were observed fleeing the area together.
One vehicle was identified as a white Ford F-150 that had just been reported stolen from a nearby neighborhood.
Deputies, along with assisting agencies, pursued the stolen vehicle into Dallas.
The driver, identified as Cuarenta, ultimately abandoned the truck and fled on foot into the backyard of a residence in the 5200 block of Homer St. in Dallas.
Ellis County deployed K-9 Tex, and the suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident.
Cuarenta was charged with theft of property greater than $2,500 and less than $30,000 (Third-Degree Felony), evading arrest or detention with a vehicle (Third-Degree Felony), and possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1/1-B, greater than or equal to 4 grams and less than 200 grams (Second-Degree Felony).
It is not believed Cuarenta acted alone.
Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating additional leads to identify and locate any accomplices involved in this incident.
