WAXAHACHIE – As one of the 20 fastest-growing cities in America, Waxahachie, was recently named the 2025 City of the Year in the small city category by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation.

The nonprofit organization established in 1925 to promote, organize and conduct amateur athletics in the state of Texas consists of over 140 organizations with over 210,000 individual participants.

The city also received an appreciation award for hosting TAAF’s 100th annual conference earlier this year, according to a city Facebook post.

The award was bestowed on the city for its commitment to amateur athletics across Texas.

Additionally, James Villarreal, Director of the Waxahachie Sports Complex was recognized with a 20-year service award for his dedication as TAAF’s liaison to USA Softball.

“These accolades highlight Waxahachie’s ongoing dedication to athletic opportunities, community partnerships, and leadership,” the city’s Facebook page acknowledged.
