WAXAHACHIE – The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department recently released news that an inmate had died while incarcerated at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center.
The incident happened on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the early morning hours.
The release stated an inmate had been found unconscious by detention staff with an apparent self-inflicted injury.
“Our nursing staff immediately responded and rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived,” the Ellis County Sheriff’s department said.
The inmate was identified as Vince Lee Espino, 42 of Ennis. He had been arrested and in the jail since October 2025.
Espino had originally been arrested by the Ennis Police Department on a narcotics charge.
Espino was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Waxahachie after being discovered unconscious where he was pronounced dead.
