WILMER – A 26-year-old Wilmer man died in a fatal traffic crash this past weekend.

The incident occurred Saturday morning around 2:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of North IH-35E.

The accident resulted in the closure of the IH-35E southbound lanes for several hours.
The incident began with a single-vehicle collision that caused the Wilmer resident to flip his van onto its side within the lanes of traffic.

He was able to crawl out of the van and was standing on the highway when he was struck and fatally injured by a second vehicle.
A third and fourth vehicle then approached the scene and collided with both the van and the second vehicle.

Two adult female passengers from the third vehicle sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.

The incident took place on the portion of IH-35 in DeSoto, and that police department is still investigating how the initial crash occurred.
