ALMA

Alma will hold a toy drive on Dec. 9 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Alma City Hall, 104 Interurban Road.

There will be photos with Santa and Mrs. Clause as well as photos sitting on a Texas Longhorn at the event and a bounce house, Christmas lights display, food and music.


BARDWELL

Bardwell’s recent city council meeting this past Monday had agenda items discussed including a discussion to allow the mayor to authorize purchases for the city under $5,000 with no council approval.


ENNIS

Road closure in Ennis is Lakeview Drive from SH-34 to Liska Rd and will be closed to through traffic until February. Crews are upgrading the water main. Local residents will have access via detours.


FERRIS

Ferris’ Chick-Fil-A has expanded its menu. Remember the pop-up is weekly on select days and is in front of 100 Town Plaza.


GARRETT

Garrett contracted with Ellis County Prec. #2 to resurface the road from Sleepy Hollow to Garrett. Road. The road is closed to thru traffic and alternate routes are requested to be used.


GRAND PRAIRIE

Grand Prairie Police Department worked a fatality accident that occurred in the 2700 block of E IH-30 this past Sunday.

Around 3:20 a.m. a semi-truck traveling westbound near MacArthur in slow moving traffic was struck from behind by a Chevy Tahoe.  

The Chevy Tahoe then collided with a Honda passenger car. The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured and the driver of the Honda sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to witness statements, the driver of the Tahoe was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision and was not wearing a seatbelt when the collision occurred.


GLENN HEIGHTS

Glenn Heights is inviting all veterans to join in on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. for the City Council Meeting. Mayor Sonja A. Brown will present a Proclamation in honor of the cities Veterans for their courage, dedication, and service while bravely serving the nation.


ITALY

Italy ISD canceled school for Stafford Elementary, Jr. High and High School on Tues., Nov. 4 so students can attend and support the district’s history making Italy Gladiator band taking part in the State Band Competition.


MAYPEARL

Maypearl will have its Toys for Tots toy drive now through Dec. 1st. You can bring new, unwrapped toys to City Hall at 104 E Second Street.

MILFORD

Milford’s Angel Tree registration opened this past week and closes Nov. 10. Registration is open to Milford residents ages 14 and under. You will need to show a valid photo ID, and proof of residence.


OAK LEAF

Oak Leaf city council meeting will be held on Nov. 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 301 Locust Dr.


OVILLA

The next Ovilla City Council meeting will be held on Nov. 10 from 6 to 10 p.m. at City Hall, 105 S Cockrell Hill Rd.


PALMER

The Palmer Holly Jolly Christmas Bash will be held in downtown Palmer at Jefferson Street and Main Street on Dec. 6.

The festival will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. with Santa pictures, bounce houses, face painting and hot chocolate. The light parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the tree lighting at 7 p.m.

 

PECAN HILL

Pecan Hill October City Council meeting was canceled for lack of agenda items. No word on if this will be the case in Nov. as well.


RED OAK

The City of Red Oak is seeking to hire a new Police Chief. This position oversees all operations of the Red Oak Police Department, including emergency response, crime prevention, investigations, budgets, and staff development.

The qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred), 10+ years progressive law enforcement experience, including 3+ years in command-level leadership, TCOLE Master Peace Officer Certification, Executive-level law enforcement leadership training (ILEA, FBI LEEDA, LEMIT, or equivalent) preferred in community policing, organizational change, and modern policing strategies and strong skills in communication, decision-making, and operational management. WAXAHACHIE

The Ellis County Marine Corps League Detachment 1452 will host its 250th Marine Corps Birthday Celebration and Fundraiser on Nov. 10 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Waxahachie Civic Center.

This year’s Marine Corps Birthday Celebration will be an extraordinary event, marking two and a half centuries of courage, honor, and commitment.

The evening will feature a formal ceremony, a full dinner, and dancing, blending time-honored Marine Corps traditions with community fellowship.

The event is open to the public and proceeds from the event will support scholarships for Ellis County veterans and their families, directly benefiting those who have served and sacrificed.
