RED OAK – Teams practice last second field goal drills every week, but they rarely get to execute it in a live game.

Red Oak’s field goal unit got that chance Friday night during their Homecoming game against the Joshua Owls.

With 00:03 left on the clock, Sr. kicker Rodolfo (Rudy) Salas took the field to win the game.

The kick was set up after the Hawks defense forced a fumble with the Owls driving down the field.

With under 3 minutes left, the Red Oak offense picked up a couple of huge first downs and drove the ball down to the 16-yard line, setting up Salas’ 26-yard field goal attempt.

A Joshua time-out before the snap did not “ice” the Red Oak kicker.

The snap was perfect, the hold was perfect, and Salas’ kick was perfect, giving Red Oak a hard fought 10-7 district win.

The Hawks overall record moves to 3-3, while their district record improves to 1-1.

Red Oak travels to Cleburne on Friday, Oct. 17 to take on the Yellowjackets. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
