Scammers impersonating Ellis County court official

ELLIS COUNTY – There is yet another scam in Ellis County – this one impersonating an Ellis County Court official.

Ellis County Sheriff’s Office warned on their Facebook page they had received reports of a phone scam where individuals were impersonating “Sgt. Mike McKenna from the Ellis County Courts.” 

“These scammers are calling residents and falsely claiming they owe money or must pay fines immediately to avoid arrest,” the post cautioned.

Mike McKenna does work for the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, however, “he will not be calling demanding money or threatening to arrest you if you refuse,” the post reminded.

Important to remember as well, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department – no Ellis County official will ever call an individual demanding money or requesting payment over the phone.

Also remember never to share personal or financial information over the phone with anyone, and report these type calls to your local law enforcement agency and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
