Carol Jane (Hill) Gernand, age 90, passed away peacefully in Owasso, Oklahoma on March 23, 2025.

She was born in Amarillo, Texas on November 4, 1934 and grew up in Amarillo, White Deer, Marshall and Galveston. She later lived in Houston, Texas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tyler, Texas, Cypress, Texas, and Owasso, Oklahoma.

When Carol was growing up, she especially loved spending time in Ferris, Texas with her grandmother, Stella Ann Batchler Jordan, at the family’s big white house on the corner of West 6th and Wood Streets.

Carol was a skilled artist – she enjoyed oil painting on canvas, painting china and ceramics. She loved collecting antique glass. Carol enjoyed playing in bridge clubs in Tulsa and Tyler. She also enjoyed playing games on her tablet, solving sudoku and cryptoquotes. Her favorite past times were traveling and camping with our beloved stepfather A.B. Moses and other family members. Carol and Fred treasured their travels to Branson, Hawaii, Alaska, and Paris. Her trip to Israel with a church group was enlightening. One of her most meaningful life endeavors was when she took a Stephen’s Ministry course at Marvin United Methodist Church. She and husband Fred were also members of Marvin’s Pairs and Parents Sunday School Class.

Before retirement in 1986, Carol worked as a skilled secretary in Galveston and Houston, then moved to Tulsa in 1974. In 1977 she went to work for Transok Pipeline Company in Tulsa as secretary to the Vice President. In 1982 she was promoted to Pricing Supervisor in Contract Administration.

Carol was preceded in death by parents James Davis Hill and Faye Jordan Hill, sister Jo Ann Hill Chapman, brother-in-law Joseph Chapman as well as late husbands A.B. Moses and Fred Gernand.

Nothing was more important to Carol than her family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by daughters Rhonda Faye Donahue of Waller, Texas, G. Lynn Cowles and husband Kevin of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Phyllis Lynn Dugan and husband David of Skiatook, Oklahoma. She is also survived by nephew Greg Chapman and wife Sherie of Tomball, Texas, as well as dear friend Carole Wilson of Tyler, Texas. She was blessed with grandchildren Jared Donahue, Tim Macrae, wife Angela, Natalie Macrae, Shauna Lane, husband Will, and Daniel Dugan. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren who affectionally called her “Triple G” (Great Grandma Gernand) and held a special place in her heart; Connor Donahue, Mackenzie Dearinger, Madison and Ivy Lane, Max Macrae, Kellen Benson, and Diem Cato.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Ferris, Texas, March 29, 2025 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a graveside committal service at Ferris Memorial Park North. Pastor Mary Gean Cope is officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Seasons Hospice of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Baptist Village Liberty Place of Owasso, Oklahoma, or a charity of your choice.

Special thanks to the staff members at Baptist Village Liberty Place and Seasons Hospice for the care and compassion shown to our mother and family.
