GARRETT – The Garrett Rural Fire Department was severely damaged in Saturday morning’s storms.
A social media post from the fire department stated, “This morning, our fire station took a direct hit from a microburst or tornado.
“Two sides of the building and all three overhead doors had significant damage.”
The rear wall was also damaged as well as both the engine and brush trucks with damage to the front ends.
“We are going to need help from the community to recover from this financial burden,” the Garrett Rural Fire Department posted. “You can send all monetary donations to 6116 FM 879, Ennis, TX 75119.
Some good Samaritans who came out to help the fire department over the weekend with repairs included Mitchell Anderson and RJ with Texas Iron Concepts, LLC; Mueller, Inc. brought replacement sheet metal to help with the damage; Kopec Overhead Door assisted in removing the bent garage doors; Zenan Construction sent a crew to help with clean-up; Palmer Fire-Rescue provided food and drinks for volunteers; as well as residents and neighbors who showed support.
There will also be a donation jar located at Lolli & Pop’s Shop in Ennis for all who wish to donate.
The Garrett Rural Fire Station FB post said, “We will still be able to respond to calls, but our station will be out of commission until further notice.”
