Ferris High School student saves life of fellow golfer

FERRIS – Ferris High School student Angel Lucio was participating in the Winter Classic Golf Tournament last week in Lancaster when he heard a cry for help.

A freshman golfer from Crandall ISD (who didn’t know how to swim) went to retrieve his ball out of a water hazard. While leaning over the water, he lost his balance and fell in – and couldn’t get out.

With the water reaching the young golfer’s face, he started yelling and waving his arms trying to get help. 

Angel heard the cry, and without hesitation raced down a hill and jumped into the cold water, pulling the young golfer out and preventing him from drowning.

Afterwards, Angel picked up his clubs and played the rest of his round of golf – soaking wet in 47 degree weather – without telling his coaches. 

The coaches only found out about the lifesaving actions Angel took after he was directly asked, “Why are you playing soaking wet?” 

According to his coaches, his actions that day were honorable, brave, and heroic, and Lucio did it without hesitation and from the goodness of his heart.

Angel was recognized as Hero of the Month for Ferris High School, an award given by the Ferris ISD Police Department.
