It’s that time of year again - Read Across America Week is almost here!
What began as a single-day event to honor Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2 has blossomed into a week-long celebration. From March 2-8, 2025, communities across the U.S. will come together to celebrate.
This event is dedicated to fostering a love for books and promoting literacy.
We will have our very own Seuss Day at the library on Monday, March 3 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Stop in for photo opportunities, crafts, goodies, and, of course, a Dr. Seuss read aloud. Dr. Seuss’s birthday is one of our favorite holidays to observe at the library; we look forward to celebrating with you!
STORY TIME is hosted every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Children are treated to stories, fun activities, and a snack. Before leaving, your child may choose a prize from the treasure chest to take home.
AFTER-SCHOOL GAME TIME is held each Thursday from 3:30 – 5 p.m. Children can play the PS5 on the large screen in the meeting room and board games are also available.
NEW BOOKS: “Never Say Never” by Danielle Steel, “Pelican Girls” by Julia Malye, “The Love of My Afterlife” by Kirsty Greenwood, “The Night Ends with Fire” by K.X. Song, “The Science of Menopause: Understand Your Body Make the Right Choices” (Dewey 618) by Philippa Kaye, and “Social Security 101: From Medicare to Spousal Benefits, an Essential Primer on Government Retirement Aid” (Dewey 368) by Alfred Mill.
FUN FACT: Dr. Seuss’s real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel, and he never had a doctorate. He added “Dr.” to his name as consolation to his father, who had hoped he would practice medicine. An honorary doctorate was granted to him by his alma mater, Dartmouth, in 1956.
The library is located at 301 E. 10th St., across from Mutz Ballpark. Library staff may be reached at ferrislibrary@ferristexas.gov or (972) 544-2110, Option 9.
