Midlothian extends winning streak to seven, beats Tyler 42-28

MIDLOTHIAN – Linebacker Nick Teufel’s pick-six with 1:51 left sealed the victory for Midlothian over Tyler at Midlothian ISD Stadium. 

Tied at 28 with just over six minutes to go, the Panthers (7-1, 4-0 in District 7-5A Div. I) ran down the clock with a nine-play drive, capped off by an end-around reverse to running back Kentorion King for a 21 yard score.

On the ensuing kickoff, a decent return by the Lions (4-5, 2-3 District 7-5A Div. I) was brought back because of a blindside block penalty, forcing them to start at their own 16 yard line.

On the next play of the drive, Tyler was picked off by Teufel. 

The running attack was substantial by both teams, as they combined for 526 total rushing yards, with Midlothian accounting for 325.

Seven different rushers contributed for the Panthers. Quarterback Beau Wendel led all rushers with 107 yards and a touchdown, and King rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.

Midlothian didn’t go easy on Tyler’s junior quarterback, Caden Grandberry, intercepting him three times before the game was over. It was truly a group defensive effort as Jared Pope, Daniel Idowu, and Nick Teufel picked up one apiece. Idowu also set a new season high mark in total tackles with 12.

Despite the loss, Tyler saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cadarius McMiller rushed for 59 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. 

Midlothian will travel to face Red Oak at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1.
