Hawks fall to Scots, 32-14

RED OAK – The Red Oak Hawks fell to 2-3, 0-1 in district after losing 32-14 to the #4 ranked Highland Park Scots. 

After being held scoreless in the first quarter for the first time this year, Highland Park turned a Jack Morse fumble recovery into the game’s opening scoring drive covering 63 yards in seven plays. Paxton Smith made an acrobatic sideline catch in the end zone of a 14-yard pass from Buck Randall for a 7-0 lead at 9:03 of the second quarter.

After Highland Park scored again midway through the quarter, Red Oak drove 56 yards in nine plays with Kingston McAdams scoring from the 1-yard line in the final 2:08 of the first half to trim the Scots’ lead to 14-7 at intermission.

The Scots scored first in the second half with a 57-yard touchdown pass to James Lancaster, the Scots’ leading rusher with 86 yards on 21 carries.

The Hawk’s offense showed they could move the ball and score, doing so again in the 3rd quarter, but a couple of turnovers and two safety’s proved costly against the Scots and became the difference in the game. 

Red Oak played Highland Park tough with their defense, forcing a few 3 and outs, a couple of quarterback sacks, an interception and several quarterback hurries during the game.

The Hawk’s Kaleb Ross and Gabriel Giadolor picked up sacks on the defensive side of the ball. Xavier Block picked off a 2nd half interception. The two Red Oak touchdowns came from quarterback Billy Middleton and a spectacular jumping score from running back Kingston McAdams.

Red Oak will regroup and travel to face the Joshua Owls on Friday, Oct. 11. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
