ELLIS COUNTY –  Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies made a narcotics arrest last week with the helped of its well-trained K9 “Tex” and his deputy partner.

The K9 team, according to a press release from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, “is dedicated to drug detection and criminal apprehension,” thereby playing a critical role in identifying and pursuing narcotics in Ellis County.

On. Sept. 23, Tex and his Sheriff Deputy partner were conducting a traffic enforcement stop on Iinterstate 45 in Ellis County when the Deputy noticed suspicious behavior from the driver. 

The deputy decided to deploy Tex who quickly detected drugs, thus giving the deputy probable cause to search the vehicle. 

During the search an estimated 5 kilograms of cocaine was detected leading to the arrest of the driver. 

The release explained the team is “trained to assist in detecting drugs, tracking suspects, protecting handlers, and searching for evidence. 

“This arrest showcases the ongoing efforts of the Ellis County Sheriff’s K9 Unit to combat drug-related crimes in the area.”
