FERRIS – According to Ellis County Todd Little’s office, the Ellis County Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that occurred in the 700 block of East India Road in Ferris last week, Sept. 19.
The call came in around 6:15 a.m.
The fire left one person dead due to heavy fire and smoke inhalation.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered two victims trapped inside the structure.
Ferris Department of Public Safety arrived at the scene first and rescued the second victim, airlifted to Parkland Hospital.
That person still remains in critical condition.
The names of the victims have not been released.
“The Ellis County Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation into the cause and origin of the fire, which is undetermined at this time” Little’s office said.
In addition to Ferris Public Safety and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, other responding units included Bristol Fire Department, Red Oak Fire Department, Palmer Fire Department, Ovilla Fire Department, Allegiance Emergency Medical Service, and there was also assistance offered by the Ellis County Road & Bridge Precinct 1 for heavy equipment.
