ELLIS COUNTY – I am coming to find out that being part of a community is very important to stay in the loop about what is going on in town.
Not only has it been helpful in knowing what goes on in the small city of Red Oak, but it has helped me grow mentally, emotionally and socially as well.
It’s good relating to friends who can relate to certain problems and help with the things people go through.
Especially after this very trying year of Covid-19.
Staying plugged in to what is going on in Ellis County is extremely important.
For example, I have noticed that many people do not watch or attend ROISD school board meetings or city council meetings, in my town of Red Oak and beyond.
Did you ever think however, how crucial it is to know what’s going on in our own back yard just as much as what is going on in another city or a world away.
Taking part in community events and attending meetings really is vital for all residents no matter what city you live in because knowledge is power.
Another important aspect of being part of a community is supporting your neighbor’s local businesses. Personally, I prefer to receive goods and services from a local I know over a big corporation.
Why? Because we have to stick together if we want smaller cities in which we live to prosper and grow into a stronger community. Making sure to keep a close-knit community means keeping a community’s values intact too.
My town of Red Oak isn’t that big of a city, so every stranger you see should be greeted with kindness and a smile. I have been a part of this community since I moved here in the sixth grade, and I’m 31 years old now.
Covid-19 has made people a little leerier of each other, so let’s bring back the friendliness and fellowship with each other again and that can start with church or even a community gathering.
Local resident Stephanie TeBeest of Ardent Church in Red Oak said she has found her community. “The people of Ardent Church in Red Oak have always treated me like family,” said TeBeest.
“Each one is willing to selflessly give their time, energy and hearts.
“This means a lot – because my family is from Montana.”
