RED OAK – The Red Oak police were involved in a foot chase just days before Christmas last week.
Officers arrested Cecil Bassino McCauley, a 54-year-old black male from Dallas.
McCauley was charged with evading arrest/detention with vehicle and theft of property, which resulted in a felony arrest.
The suspect already had at least two previous convictions.
Last Sunday just after midnight, Red Oak police were called to a theft in progress at the CVS Pharmacy in the 100 block of Harris Ave.
The reporting person told police there were two black males in a black 2007 Mercedes Benz R32 with a busted windshield who had stolen five cases of beer from the CVS.
An officer in the area at around the same time as the theft occurred saw the suspect’s vehicle run a stop sign while driving on Harris Ave. without headlights. Then the Mercedes turned northbound onto the service road to enter I-35E.
Attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to stop when the pursuing officer turned on his emergency lights and siren.
Both the officer and the Mercedes entered onto northbound I-35E and the pursuit continued until the suspect exited a little over 10 miles later in Oak Cliff at Zang Blvd.
After the vehicle exited Zang Blvd., the chase continued until both McCauley and the passenger bailed out of the Mercedes in the 1700 block of Fernwood Ave. in Dallas.
Both men continued to evade police on foot until McCauley was apprehended and taken into custody without incident.
The passenger remains at large and was not identified.
The stolen merchandise was recovered from the suspect vehicle. McCauley was charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and theft of property less than $2,500 2/more previous convictions.
