OVILLA – With its annual parade and celebration of floats, the City of Ovilla saw its 56th successful Heritage Day event this past weekend.

The theme this year was, “Ovilla Salutes Military Service.”

Ovilla Mayor Pro Tem David Griffin said it was a record turnout.

“Once again, friends of Ovilla, neighboring city officials, County officials and her Citizens turned out in large numbers to support Ovilla Heritage Day,” Griffin said.

After the well-attended parade, the celebration followed behind City Hall where proclamations for former DeSoto Mayor Bobby Wadall who served as this year’s Honorary Grand Marshal in the parade and Grant Stanfield, also a Veteran Marshals were issued proclamations.

Wadall graduated from Texas Tech University in 1955 where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC and studied agricultural education.

He retired from the Air Force in 1985 as a colonel with 30 years of service.

The annual Heritage Day event also featured plenty of entertainment, food, children’s activities including a climbing wall and petting zoo and many local vendors.

Several local dignitaries also attended this year’s Heritage Day in Ovilla.
