Another piece of Ferris history gave way to a wrecking crew this past week.
The old Ferris Nursing Home, 201 E 5th St, is giving way to new residential and commercial development on 5th Street.
The long abandoned building was deeded to the City of Ferris after being condemned and contained asbestos. Developer Marvin Barnes approached the city to acquire the property for redevelopment. Barnes said the lot sizes would range from 1,700- 2,300 square feet and would be one or two stories depending on the buyer’s needs.
