FERRIS – Phone calls, text messages (to those who have signed up for it) and social media, along with the city’s website on Monday, May 28 notified Ferris residents to “boil their water.”
“It was a precautionary thing, “said Ferris City Manager Bill Jordan.
The domino circumstances all began Sunday when a huge explosion (possibly transformers blowing) caused electricity to go out across the city.
Then early Monday (Memorial Day), the lack of power caused the water pumps to go down and most residents were without water.
Those problems were immediately taken care of by the Ferris public works crews who responded even though it was on their holiday day off.
However, according to Jordan, “The power outage played havic with our water system.”
It messed up the controls and Jordan said, until the city’s water testing could be confirmed by an independent third-party lab, he was recommending residents boil their water.
“Our public works crew did a great job,” said Jordan.” “They worked late into the night.”
