HUTCHINS – Recently I visited the Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center just South East of Ellis County in Hutchins.

The non-profit 501 c (3) rescue organization is dedicated to the rehabilitation of orphaned, sick and injured wild birds.

The center strives to increase its public awareness, respect and appreciation of wild birds and animals.

Out in the middle of nowhere, I was met by Kathy Rogers, founder of the rehabilitation center.

She gave me an awesome tour of the Center’s intake nursery room and throughout various rehabilitation sections of the center.

The Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center was established in 1989, and is the longest operating all-species, avian-only wildlife rehabilitation facility, environmental education center, and wildlife preserve in North Texas.

They provide a much-needed resource for individuals, businesses and local government agencies in North Texas.

In an average year, the Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center treats about 5,000 orphaned and injured birds.

It also serves as a permanent home to birds that cannot be released.

Those birds become animal ambassadors who help to educate the public through outreach programs.

The Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center relies on support through tax-deductible donations and its trained team of dedicated volunteers.

The Center complies with all federal and state regulations and holds federal and state rehabilitation and educational display permits.

They provide professional, humane, comprehensive medical and supportive care to injured wild birds.

We rely entirely on public donations as we do not receive any federal or corporate funding. All donations are appreciated, no matter the amount! If you would like to make a cash or item donation, please visit our website at rogerwildlife.org to see the list of needed supplies. All donations are tax deductible!

Volunteers are needed to rehabilitate protected species and educate the public on the preservation of these birds and their natural habitats.
