WILMER – With three public schools and one charter school in the Wilmer-Hutchins school district, there will soon be one more.

“The Board approved last Thursday the contractor for the New Wilmer Elementary School,” Wilmer Mayor Emmanuel Wealthy-Williams said.

Last week a site location event took place where residents were able to be part of the placing of the signage welcoming the school. The new school site will be located at Beltline Road and Goode Street.

“The School is due to open August 2020,” Wealthy-Williams said. She said the groundbreaking is scheduled sometime in the new few months.

“This is the beginning of a bright new legacy for Wilmer,” Wealthy-Williams concluded. “This will be the first school in the city since 2006. Our kids will finally be able to go to school in their own city. Success of any city is made by one great decision at a time. This was an amazing move forward.”

Currently Wilmer students attend Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary, Kennedy-Curry Middle School, Wilmer-Hutchins High School or the Golden Rules Schools Charter School.
