FERRIS – Ferris Police issued an arrest warrant late last week for a 24-year-old Ennis man in conjunction with the burglary of a habitation in the 300 block of West 9th Street.
Dakota James Mitchell was issued an arrest warrant after it was determined he was a suspect in the burglary at the home on West 9th Street.
The suspect was said to have entered the home on West 9th Street, which has an attached garage to the home taking an electric powered air compressor, red gasoline powered trimming machine and set of three-hand held rechargeable battery power tools.
Together the item’s value is $500.
Police were called to the home on West 9th Street after a neighbor reported the burglary last week while in progress.
The caller reported a Caucasian man wearing a hooded jacket was leaving the residents on West 9th Street with an air compressor he loaded into white Dodge mini-van. The caller took photos of the mini-van leaving the premises with her mobile phone. The vehicle had a Texas license plate and was later identified.
Police were able to identify the last known owner of the vehicle as belonging to a resident of Ferris. When contact was made with the resident it was determined the minivan had been sold to Mitchell by the previous owner who knew him.
The reporting party knew the owner of the home where the burglary took place and said she had never seen Mitchell come from the home and was suspicious.
The owner of the home also told police it looked like one of the two doors attached to the garage looked to have been tampered with. He showed police marks on the weather stripping adjacent to the door jamb, which had marks consistent with a person using a tool to open the door latch.
The garage had been made into a craft shop with several hand and power tools for custom wood-working projects inside.
It was discovered Mitchell made have been burglarizing several homes in the area since the beginning of the year.
The criminal offense for the burglary of a habitation is a 2nd degree felony.
