BRISTOL – The dynamics of volunteer fire departments are often hard to understand unless one needs a fire department.Even more confusing are all the Emergency Service District areas in Ellis County, basically volunteer departments who manage county fires when needed.

Ennis Police needs help identifying shop-lifting suspect

ENNIS – The Ennis Police Department needs your help in identifying a suspect who recently committed a theft at the Walmart in that city on July 28.The unidentified woman, a white female, committed a theft of $320 in miscellaneous items from the local Walmart store.

Former ECP Editor Leif Wright found dead

MUSKOGEE, OK – Former editor of The  Ellis County Press and step-son of Charles D. Hatfield Jr., publisher Leif Wright, 53, was found dead last Wednesday morning at his Muskogee home,  according to Reggie Cotton, Muskogee deputy police chief.

ELLIS COUNTY FIRES SAFELY CONTAINED

ELLIS COUNTY – Two fires in Ferris and one fire in the Ellis County portion of Glenn Heights, which reignited the following day, were safely contained with no loss of life last week.The city of Ferris contained two major fires last Tuesday afternoon suppressing both fires quickly.

Ferris ISD approves firearms for teachers

FERRIS – The Ferris ISD School Board unanimously approved the implementation of a Guardian Program for FISD, which will be in effect when students return to classes on Aug. 10.

WILMER POPULATION INCREASES TO 6,690

WILMER – The city of Wilmer’s population has grown over the past year according to the North Central Texas Council of Governments.A recent report by NCTCOG reported in January 2021 Wilmer’s population was at 6,100.As of the end of January this year, that number had increased to 6,690.
