FERRIS – The community back-to-school event held in Ferris this past weekend at the Scout House was a success with roughly 100 students in attendance.
The City of Ferris and La Flare’s Barbershop hosted the back-to-school event along with the help of Camp Gladiator Ferris, Green Funeral Home and Nunez Excavation.
“We appreciate the City of Ferris for organizing and supporting the back to school event this weekend at the Scout House,” said Ferris Superintendent James Hartman.
“The donation of school supplies and haircuts for our students is greatly appreciated.
“We are proud to partner with the city in serving this community.”
The event not only offered students needed school supplies, but also free haircuts for both boys and girls.
The Ferris ISD also held its annual Back-to-School Fair a week earlier at Ferris High School with more than 70 community service organizations and vendors providing school supplies, haircuts, uniform exchange, registration assistance, vaccinations, and eye exams for FISD students.
“Attendance at this year’s event was estimated to be 2,000 students and parents,” Hartman concluded regarding the Back-to-School Fair held in July. “Deputy Superintendent T.J. Knight and the planning committee spent several months organizing the event that has become a social and civic gathering opportunity for the entire community.”
