Sheriff’s Deputies on track for 100% certified in mental health peace officer certification

ELLIS COUNTY – There have been about two-thirds of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department deputies who have now successfully completed Mental Health Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.This totals about 65 deputies to date.

COUNTY OFFICIALS SWORN IN JAN. 1

ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County officials took their oaths of office earlier this month on Sunday, Jan. 1 with 15 elected officials being sworn in for the term at Waxahachie’s historic courthouse.

Legislation filed to protect Texas National Guard from unconstitutional wars

State Rep. Bryan Slaton (R–Royse City) has again filed legislation to “protect the Texas National Guard from being deployed into active combat duty in unconstitutional wars.”House Bill 184, also known as “Defend the Guard,” would require Congress to follow Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S.

18-year-old shot during carjacking at Waxahachie Walmart

WAXAHACHIE – A carjacking at the Walmart in Waxahachie left one 18-year-old store employee with multiple gunshot wounds and two suspects at large.On Dec. 31 at approximately 10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Walmart store in Waxahachie in response to the shooting.

Bill to ban remote kill switches in cars filed

Austin – Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom (TURF) and Texans for Toll-Free Highways (TTH) announce the filing of House Bill 1031 authored by Rep. Bryan Slaton (R-Royse City), to protect Texas drivers from a remote kill switch being installed in their vehicles.

W.I.S.H. Program distributes gifts

WILMER – The City of Wilmer began accepting applications in early November to mid-December for Wilmer’s Initiative to Spread Hope Program.Also known as the Mayor’s W.I.S.H. Program, parents/legal guardians applied with their child’s top three wishes under $25.
