ENNIS – The City of Ennis voted unanimously to offer the Ennis City Manager position to Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer Saturday in a special held meeting.
A release stated, “The decision follows a comprehensive and competitive selection process led by the full commission and informed by input from senior city staff. Ms. Weckmueller-Behringer was selected for her extensive background in municipal leadership, infrastructure planning, and helping communities grow in a thoughtful and sustainable way.”
“Ennis is a Home Rule Charter and states the city commission has the authority to hire and fire the city manager, city secretary, city attorney, and municipal judge.
“The mayor does not have the authority to hire or fire city staff independently. Furthermore, all personnel decisions below the city manager level fall under the responsibility of the city manager, not the mayor or individual members of the commission.”
Next steps will be the mayor, authorized by the commissioners to move forward with the hiring process to negotiate and execute the employment agreement with Weckmueller-Behringer.
“This decision was made collectively by the city commission after a thorough and deliberate process,” said Ennis Mayor Kameron Raburn. “Andrea has a strong background in city infrastructure planning and growing communities, and we’re confident that her leadership will help guide Ennis into its next chapter.”
