WAXAHACHIE – It is not everyone who makes an impact on a city the way Waxahachie’s Deputy City Manager Albert Lawrence did.
Lawrence died July 10, leaving what the city remarked was a “Legacy of service, dedication, and leadership which will forever remain a cornerstone of our community.”
His time and energy also went a step further as the city’s website stated, “He will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but for the kindness and integrity he brought to every interaction.”
Lawrence began his employment with Waxahachie in March 2018, offering more than 20 years of municipal management experience.
“Throughout his career, he served with distinction in several North Texas communities, including the cities of Grand Prairie, Irving, Garland, and Red Oak,” the Waxahachie website noted.
He had served as Red Oak’s Assistant City Manager before joining Waxahachie, bringing much knowledge in public works, water, and wastewater management – critical areas essential to Waxahachie’s infrastructure and quality of life.
Lawrence was also lauded as having a strong strategic vision, and commitment to excellence, which strengthened municipal operations.
Lawrence graduated from Texas A&M University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Bioenvironmental Science.
He also earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Texas.
He was a Certified Public Manager through Texas State University and a Credentialed Manager through the International City/County Management Association.
He was also an active member of the North Texas City Management Association, Texas City Management Association, and International City/County Management Association.
He had also served in the U.S. Army for eight years.
“Albert was an invaluable member of our leadership team and a trusted colleague,” Waxahachie City Manager Ricky Boyd said.
“His dedication to excellence, deep expertise in municipal operations, and unwavering commitment to serving the Waxahachie citizens made a profound impact on our community.
“We will greatly miss his guidance, professionalism, and friendship. Our hearts are with Kim and the rest of his family during this difficult time.”
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Kim, and their two beloved dogs.
