WAXAHACHIE – The deadline for Waxahachie’s historic tax incentive deadline is Sunday, March 15.
Iincentives are offered for historic residential and commercial properties to encourage property owners to maintain the historical integrity of the city’s resources.
The historic tax incentive is a 25% property tax discount based on the property’s appraised value.
Property owners must apply for the tax incentive annually with the City of Waxahachie and the Historic Preservation Officer began accepting applications for the exemption in December.
All historic tax incentives are approved by the Heritage Preservation Commission to ensure property owners have maintained the historical integrity of their property.
The Heritage Preservation Officer notifies the Ellis County Appraisal District annually about properties that receive the historic tax incentive.
Contact Downtown and Historic Preservation staff to determine whether future building improvements require a Certificate of Appropriateness before beginning work on your historic property.
Improvements that compromise the structure’s historical integrity may disqualify the property from receiving the historic tax incentive and any additional tax credits.
When applying for the historic tax incentive, you can also apply for an additional tax for commercial reinvestment.
The application to apply is at www.waxahachie.com/departments/downtown_development/historic_tax_exempt….
