WAXAHACHIE – Arron Semeion Thompson was indicted an Ellis County Grand Jury last week on capital murder in the death of Ellis County Detention Officer Isaiah Bias late last year.
The incident occurred on Dec. 16, 2024, at around 3:45 p.m. at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center in Waxahachie.
According to authorities, Thompson, 45, fatally assaulted Bias, 28, as he was putting Thompson back in his cell after his one hour out of the cell.
Thompson had been in custody on three charges of assault against a public servant and one charge of evading arrest, as well as resisting arrest and public intoxication.
According to Sheriff Brad Norman, nearby medical personnel began performing lifesaving efforts on Bias until first responders arrived.
Bias was then transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Waxahachie, where he was pronounced dead.
Norman said Bias had been with the sheriffâ’s office for more than six years.
He started out with the Sheriff’s Office Explorer program where he was trained by officers.
Bias became a detention officer in January of 2016, a role he kept for a year before enrolling at Navarro College.
He then returned to the sheriff’s office in February of 2019 and worked as a detention officer.
A trial date has not been set for Thompson, who is still in the Ellis County jail on a $2.1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 24.
Ricky Sipes with the Ellis County District Attorney’s Office said it has not been determined if the DA’s office will seek the death penalty in the case.
