Texas Rangers leading investigation into Glenn Heights officer-involved shooting

ELLIS COUNTY – Friday, Feb. 9, the Glenn Heights Police Department responded to a robbery in progress at 2523 Sunburst Drive.

The incident occurred in the incorporated city limits of Glenn Heights.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., when officers arrived at the location they were fired on by one of the suspects. 

An Ellis County Sheriff’s Department press release reported “An attempted apprehension of the suspects ensued, leading to an altercation with the suspect who was firing a weapon at the officers who returned fire at the suspects. 

“One of the suspects sustained life ending injuries during the shooting and was transported by medical personnel for treatment. The suspect was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.”

The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. 

Glenn Heights Police Chief Nick Bristow also stated The Texas Rangers are assisting the Glenn Heights Police Department with the officer involved shooting to assure full transparency.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the shooting, and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation into the robbery.
