WILMER – Residents in Wilmer will need to find an alternate route for the next five months while Sunrise Road to Pleasant Run Road is closed.

The closure is for the Sunrise Road expansion between the cities of Wilmer, Lancaster and Dallas County.

The expansion is part of the Dallas County capital improvement program project.

It is for the purpose of constructing transportation improvements to Sunrise Road from Beltline Road to Pleasant Run Road.

The city and county entered into the agreement in May, 2011 as an order by the Dallas County Commissioners Court in order to improve transportation on roads in Dallas County.

The city and county did not enter into a funding agreement for the project for Sunrise Road until November, 2017 by a Commissioners Court order to provide funding in the amount of $1,200,000 for the design and right-of-way of the Sunrise Road Project.

The county was also set to enter in a project specific agreement with the city of Lancaster to provide funding in the amount of $4,200,000 for the construction of the Sunrise Road Project in that city.

The City of Wilmer’s total obligation to the project is to provide funding not to exceed $860,000.

The expansion is set to widen Sunrise Road, between Pleasant Run Road and Belt Line Road, from a two-lane undivided rural facility to a fourlane undivided urban facility with property acquisition on the west side of Sunrise Road required for a minimum 90-foot wide right-of-way section and any additional easements as defined by the project.

In addition, there are drainage improvements and box culverts that will be added at Beltline Road and fire hydrants along the western side of Sunrise Road.
