RED OAK – Red Oak ISD is excited to announce the public grand opening of its newest campus, Dr. Joy Shaw Middle School, on Sunday, Nov. 16, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The school is located at 340 Westmoreland Rd. in Ovilla.
“We are ecstatic about our beautiful campus nearing completion and want to show off this facility to our Hawk Nation families and the community,” said ROISD Superintendent Brenda Sanford.
“This building, which will officially open in January 2026, is possible because of the support of our community in passing the 2023 bond, and we want to thank them by inviting them to this wonderful event.”
Currently, Dr. Joy Shaw Middle School students and staff are co-located at Red Oak Middle School while construction is finalized.
The new building features a central hallway design with academic wings for 6th through 8th grades on the north side, and electives and communal areas, including the cafeteria, library (learning commons), fine arts, electives, and athletics on the south side.
The grand opening ceremony will include remarks from district administrators, city dignitaries, and members of Dr. Shaw’s family, as well as a performance by the Dr. Joy Shaw Middle School Band. Following the brief program, guests will have the opportunity to tour the facility.
Construction is 98% complete, with final touches currently underway.
The district has received partial occupancy approval from the City of Ovilla, allowing installation of furniture, technology, and other campus equipment.
Over winter break, staff will move teachers, materials, and supplies from the current location to the new school.
