ITALY – The public appeal hearing for former Italy Police Department officer Kevin “Blue” Oginski, originally scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 18, has been rescheduled to a later date.
Local officials have not yet announced a new time for the proceeding.
The hearing was granted following an appeal filed by Oginski, aiming to bring specific administrative details regarding his termination out into the open.
Oginski served with the department for more than 30 years and is widely recognized throughout Italy for his community-focused approach to local law enforcement.
However, new questions are emerging regarding the timeline of his departure.
Ron Helms of Italy Texas News reports a recorded conversation involving Italy’s new Police Chief, Chad Nelson, was brought to light just days before the scheduled public appeal.
While the exact date of the audio remains unconfirmed, the recording reportedly captures discussions concerning the police chief vacancy and department leadership choices.
The conversation is drawing heavy attention because Nelson ultimately assumed the chief position, while Oginski – who maintained considerable public support from local residents – was later terminated.
Prior to his official firing, Oginski reportedly spent more than three months away from regular duty under a strict gag order.
Because specific administrative details behind his dismissal have been kept completely under wraps, the former veteran officer requested the public hearing as a direct means to address the lack of transparency surrounding his termination.
