ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to set the hearing for the creation of the Ellis County Emergency Service District #12 for Jan. 21, 2025.
Ellis County Clerk Krystal Valdez verified all signatures from the petition were qualified voters.
Valdez told the commissioners she had been notified that both cities being affected by the new ESD district had given their consent.
Maypearl and Milford both had resolutions approved this past week to allow for next steps to set the public hearing date.
Milford Asst. Fire Chief Eric Glass confirmed Milford had approved the resolution, but said their fire chief likely had the resolution and had been called away for work and not able to attend the commissioner court as planned.
Valdez confirmed she has already received the resolution from Maypeal.
She recommended the hearing set for Jan. 21, a regularly scheduled Commissioner Court meeting thus allowing time for notices to the newspaper and the courthouse as well as allowing the election administrator appropriate time to set the order to call the election in May 2025.
“That ETJ, that map is important,” Ellis County Judge Todd Little said.
At an earlier meeting, Milford Fire Chief Carlos Phoenix told the commissioners the area in District #12 will include south to the border of Ellis and Hill counties, just north of Bee Creek Schoolhouse Road toward Maypearl on 308, up to Morgan Road on 77 going towards Italy and all the way to the Navarro and Ellis County line.
