WAXAHACHIE – Waxahachie Police arrested a homicide suspect over the weekend after responding to shots fired calls early Saturday morning, Aug. 17.
A number of callers reported they heard gunfire in the area of East Criddle Street.
Callers also reported they heard tires screeching.
Later that morning, Waxahachie Police responded to a welfare check at 200 East Criddle, the same vicinity as the earlier multiple gunshot calls.
When they arrived at the welfare check, they found a 24-year-old Hispanic male with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Despite efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Waxahachie Police indicated on Facebook “the victim’s identity is not being released at this time out of respect for the family.”
Waxahachie PD’s Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit investigated the crime and collected enough information to secure an arrest warrant for a 28-year-old suspect, Wilfredo Ramos.
That afternoon at around 4:30 p.m., Ramos was arrested without incident by Waxahachie PD at his home in the 100 block of Butler Lane in Waxahachie.
Ramos was booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center and charged with murder.
Law enforcement groups who helped Waxahachie PD in this investigation included the Southern Regional Response Group, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A statement from the Waxahachie PD Facebood page read, “The individual arrested for this crime is believed to have acted alone, and there is no reason to anticipate further threats to the community.”
