ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioners voted unanimously on a resolution to approve the notice of election for the Ellis County Emergency Service District No. 12.
The election will be held on May 3.
ESD No. 12 encompasses both Milford and Italy county as well as the City of Milford.
Jana Onyon, Ellis County Elections Administrator spoke confirming the notice.
She said voters in ESD No. 12 can vote at any designated voting location during both early voting and on election day.
Ellis County Judge Todd Little said, “This will be the third one this year, and voting will take place during the city council uniform election cycle.
“They are doing their work right now and their petition has been accepted by the County Clerk. Hopefully, we can get our third ESD.”
Little added, “These California wildfires have woken people up who want fire protection, and that is a good thing.”
Commissioner Randy Stinson, pct. 1, pointed out people need to be reminded this will cost money.
He said in the past this vote was tried and turned down.
“Now it is to the point where insurance has tightened up in the last year,” Stinson said.
“Mine has tripled in the last year. Hopefully, these people will step up and realize these people are not out to get their money.”
