ENNIS – Look no further for an enjoyable, family-friendly night at the theatre: “A Merry Adventure of Robin Hood” opens Friday, March 28, at Theatre Rocks!, 505 NW Main St. in Ennis.
Adapted by Rebecca Perry from classic folk tales – with a dash of original comedic storyline, this production serves up silly laughs and lighthearted fun for all ages.
Many well-loved, traditional characters make an appearance, including Robin Hood (Jonas Ramsey of Corsicana), Maid Marian (Charlotte Robie of Ennis), the Sheriff of Nottingham (Jarrett Stampes of Corsicana), Little John (Ben Rosewell of Waxahachie), Friar Tuck (Jon Kirk Race of Ennis) and Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Simon Bailey of Waxahachie).
In this tale, as per usual, Robin needs some rescuing and does some rescuing.
A widow (Charlene Andrews of Palmer) and her girls (Everly Stevens of Palmer, Helena Binder of Ennis and Rachel Book of Ennis) find themselves on the wrong side of the thieving sheriff and his men (Elijah Ramsey of Corsicana and Noah Ramsey of Corsicana).
Of course, Robin and his men (including Nathan Colley of Avalon, Mauricio Elizondo of Avalon and Felix Binder of Ennis) must come to their rescue.
They even enlist the aid of some Merry Men-in-training (Jeremiah Stevens of Palmer, Francis Zmolik of Ennis and Peter Zmolik of Ennis), as well as one spunky maid who is always out to prove her worth as one of the band (Genevieve Trainor of Midlothian). Maid Marian also finds an unlikely friend in Sir Guy’s sister, Lady Beatrice (Regina Zmolik of Ennis).
Quarterstaff fights, jail brawls and sword fights happen along the way. Would we expect anything less from Robin Hood?
Bennett Robie of Ennis (as the Bishop of Hereford), costumer Sarah Ramsey of Corsicana (wedding guest), Ellie Zollinger of Ennis (woodland sprite) and Bailey Smith of Ennis (woodland sprite) round out the fun cast.
Each spring for many years now, Theatre Rocks! has featured a multigenerational play with a fairly large cast for this intimate theatre.
The theatre directors hope that these productions serve the community well by providing a meaningful opportunity for young actors and a story that families can enjoy together.
“A Merry Adventure of Robin Hood” is directed by Rebecca Perry, with tremendous help and stage combat assistance from assistant director Jon Kirk Race, as well as choreography by Shiloh Brazell of Ennis.
