FERRIS – Ferris Independent School District was named an Innovative District by a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Company for making significant improvements in student outcomes, creating a learning environment that enables all students to thrive, and demonstrating continuous improvement in all of its schools.

As an Innovative District, leaders from Ferris ISD will be presenting at the annual Model Schools Conference.

The Ferris ISD team is made up of Assistant Superintendent, Lindsey Wood; Director of Teaching and Learning, Kendra Gadjica; Former Ferris High School Principal, Christopher Guastella; and Lee Longino Elementary Principal, Christy Murphy.

The 33rd Annual Conference is being held June 22–25, 2025 at the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center in Washington D.C.

The Model Schools Conference is an annual event designed to bring together educators in order to share strategies and best practices. Hosted by the Center for Model Schools, a division of HMH, the MSC is recognized as a premier professional learning experience for K–12 educators.

Over the past few years, only a handful of Texas schools have been recognized by the Center for Model Schools – and Ferris ISD has now joined that elite group.
