SAN ANTONIO – On Thursday, Feb. 13, Daphne Blackburn of the Ferris FFA caught a calf during the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s nightly Calf Scramble.

She was among 456 total kids from different 4H and FFA programs that participated in the Calf Scramble this year.

The night Daphne competed, 12 students caught a calf, resulting in each student receiving $1000 towards purchasing an animal for next year’s show.

On Daphne’s info sheet she wrote if she caught a calf, she would use that money to purchase a heifer for next year.

Well, that makes two this year.

Blackburn also caught a calf at the 2020 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble, earning a $500 purchase certificate for a show heifer and the chance for up to $16,000 in scholarship awards.

Daphne’s parents are Jayson and Samantha Blackburn of Ferris.
